| Edwards The MAX Non-adjustable Recoil Reducer
The Edwards Recoil Reducer® design is based on a piston, suspended between 2 springs of unequal ratio, being placed in motion by the reward movement of recoil. The recoil of the rifle or shotgun drives the piston forward due to its inertia against the strong spring which then returns the piston to its normal position. The piston is exerting energy forward within the gunstock the entire time the spring is being compressed by the piston and then driven back by the spring. This counteracts and slows the rearward force of recoil.
The MAX is a full 5 inch long, nonadjustable unit designed to meet the demand of shooters with heavy recoiling synthetic stocked guns. The full 5 inch length allows the greatest recoil reduction of all the Edwards recoil reducers. To install the MAX into a synthetic stock it is simply epoxied to the top of the inside of the stock's comb, and the remainder of the stocks hollow cavity is filled with expandable foam to provide a secure, trouble-free installation. The foam normally recommended is called "Great Stuff" which is available in many hardware stores. Installation can be done by either the shooter or a gunsmith, but is easy enough to be done by the shooter. The MAX can also be installed in wood stocked guns and will fit into many draw bolt holes (if the holes are long enough) or if a stock does not have one, a 7/8 inch diameter hole can be drilled parallel with the comb of the stock.
The MAX is designed for heavy recoiling guns and has heavier springs and piston for this purpose. For this reason, it is most effective in heavy kicking guns and less effective in lighter kicking guns. For lighter kicking guns, a 3 1/2" or 4" reducer should be used since their lighter piston and springs will work more for you. The MAX is capable of providing a 40-50% reduction in recoil.
The MAX weighs approximately 8.5 ounces. |
