This buffer was designed for 5.56mm / .223 cal. rifles. Also works with a variety of other AR-15 cartridges such as the 6.8 SPC, 6.5 Grendel, and even 9mm carbines. The hydraulic dampening capability of the buffer can withstand much more powerful cartridges than .223.
