| Primary Weapons Systems DC-16 (Defensive Carbine, 16 inch barrel)
The DC-16 is a high quality, complete upper assembly to match with any AR-15 lower receiver. This upper is built by Primary Weapons Systems and has a completely new, AK style, long stroke piston operating system. It is built on a mil-spec, Daniel Defense forged upper receiver with a Daniel Defense cold hammer forged 16" chrome lined barrel chambered for 5.56mm with a 1:7 twist. Instead of a standard bolt carrier key, this bolt carrier has an AK-47 style piston attached to it. There are no additional springs, tapets, rods, cups, or knobs like other piston systems. It also includes a unique rail forearm system that that is bolted directly to the barrel nut and gas block for a rock solid platform with plenty of room for mounting sights and accessories. This makes it light, simple and strong. Magpul XTM rail covers are included for the rail system for a comfortable grip. Also includes an FSC556 compensator mounted on the barrel, complete Daniel Defense bolt and bolt carrier assemblies and a forged charging handle. Fits on any quality AR-15 lower receiver and works with any standard AR-15 magazine. This is a complete, high quality, piston driven upper package. This system gives you AK simplicity, toughness and reliability in an accurate AR platform.
The long stroke gas system has some advantages over other AR-15 systems. It is strong and durable and requires minimal maintainence. The gas tube can to thousands of rounds between cleanings since it burns very clean and has little carbon build up. It shoots smooth and soft with more dwell time leading to greater reliability and less wear on parts. The gas system is also coated inside and out with a Quench-Polish-Quench (QPQ) finish which gives it incredible hardness, corrosion resistance and low friction properties. The cold hammer forged Daniel Defense barrel also provides excellent accuracy that any shooter will appreciate.
This long stroke piston operating system has several advantages:
- Clean and cool running since no gas, carbon or heat enter the bolt/carrier group
- Simpler than typical short stroke piston systems with far fewer parts
- Smooth and soft recoil cycle with more dwell time than other piston systems
- Less bolt carrier tilt than some short stroke piston systems experience
