This is the best buffer on the market today for AR style rifles! This buffer has a piston that is hydraulically dampened to absorb the shock of impact from the bolt carrier on its rearward motion and to prevent bolt bounce when it chambers a new cartridge. Designed for AR-10 style carbines with an AR-10 length collapsible stock tube such as those made by Armalite. The AR-10 collapsible stock has a 3/4" longer stock tube than an AR-15 collapsible stock and therefore requires this longer buffer. Designed for 7.62mm / .308 cal. rifles.
If you add an aftermarket AR-15 collapsible stock to your .308 AR rifle, but keep your AR-10 length carbine stock tube (receiver extension), you would still use this sized buffer. If you use an AR-15 carbine stock tube, then you would use the AR-10 Carbine SHORT buffer model.
For AR-15 style carbines with a collapsable stock chambered for a large, heavy recoiling calibers such as .458 SOCOM, 450 Bushmaster, .50 Beowulf, .30 AR, etc, this buffer works well. This buffer is the same size as the AR-15 carbine buffer (EARR), but it weighs .5 ounces more and is designed to dampen higher levels of recoil.
*Note: Not for use in Bushmaster or Rock River Arms .308 rifles. They have a longer, non-standard bolt carrier which will not work with this sized buffer.
