Smith Enterprise 7.62mm / .308 AR-10 Muzzle Brake
This new Smith Enterprise muzzle brake is designed to fit all 7.62mm and .308 cal military style rifles that have the standard 5/8x24 TPI RH threads. This includes the AR-10, SR-25, LR-308, M-110 and many other 7.62mm rifles. It is supplied with a locking jam-nut that allows the shooter to index the muzzle brake so that the top ports point straight up. Once in position, the jam nut is tightened against the back of the muzzle brake to lock it into position. Its multiple side and top ports are designed to effectively reduce recoil and muzzle climb. This is a proven recoil reducing design manufactured by Smith Enterprise Incorporated (SEI), the same company that makes the famous vortex flash suppressors. It has the same 14 gas ports precision machined into the sides and top of the brake just like the very effective SEI M14 USCG muzzle brake and the SEI M1 Garand muzzle brake. There are no downward facing ports to minimize dust signature from the prone position. However this brake is designed a little different from the M14 USCG brake in that it is .55 inch longer. This gives it a longer expansion chamber before the gas hits the ports as compared to the M14 USCG brake. This has positive effects on performance and blast from the muzzle brake. Its heavy duty construction and 5 ounces of weight also add to the stabilizing effect on the muzzle and sight picture.
It is machined from super tough 8620 chrome moly steel and hardened to a core hardness of 36-38 HRC and a surface hardness of 55-58 HRC. The lock nut is also made from 8620 steel and is heat treated to 36-38 HRC all the way through. The finish is MIL-SPEC manganese phosphate. Length is 2.80 inch, Diameter is .905 inch, Weight is 5 ounces, Exit hole is .35 inch.
